Captain America: The First Avenger Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Stanley Tucci. Marvel Entertainment. Written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Directed by Joe Johnston. FILM SYNOPSIS: Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). PREVIEW REVIEW: It reminded me of The Rocketeer, as it deals with a comic-book figure who helps save the world from the Nazis. Only with each season of comic book action figures coming to CGI life, Captain America is more pumped up with things that go boom. I must admit that despite all the killing and destruction, that after several letdowns in this genre this summer, I found the Captain more interesting, with a well developed story and some witty dialogue. It helps to have Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci, both lending credibility to the proceedings. Lively, fun, clean, patriotic, it’s an engaging popcorn-munching movie.
