Hoodwinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil (3D)
PG
Entertainment: +3
Acceptability: +2

Directed by Mike Disa. Main Actors (voices): Glenn Close, Hayden Panettiere, Patrick Warburton, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler.

FILM SYNOPSIS:This sequel to the 2004 Hoodwinked features many characters from fairy tales young children already know: Little Red Riding Hood (Hayden Panettiera) and the Big Bad Wolf (Patrick Warburton), Granny (Glenn Close), Hansel and Gretel (Bill Hader and Amy Poehler), to name a few. Plenty of danger, action and evil deeds thwarted will hold the kids’ attention, and some clever humor with goofy action will generate giggles. Red has been called away from special training school to search for the missing Hansel and Gretel under the direction of frog Nicky Flippers (voiced by David Ogden Stiers), who heads the Happily Ever After Agency (HEA). Many colorful characters, a few plot twists and lots of action will appeal mostly to children ages 5 to 9.

PREVIEW REVIEW: Red is a very feisty, independent girl who doesn’t take direction well, creating friction when Wolf steps in to help her find Hansel and Gretel, assumed to have been kidnapped. Granny sets her straight and Red slowly realizes her martial arts skills aren’t enough and that accepting help is more about wisdom than weakness. Granny ‘s past friend and member of the Sister Hood, Verushka (voiced by Joan Cusack), has become a witch who tries to destroy those on the rescue mission. When Granny saves evil-doing Verushka from certain death, the repentant witch says, “I don’t deserve to be saved.” It’s nice to hear, intended or not, the concept of amazing grace! The PG rating refers to some intense action and dark scenes that might upset some young children.
