The Trial, directed by Gary Wheeler (The List), will be released on DVD from 20th Century FOX Home Entertainment on November 9, 2010
FILM SYNOPSIS: The Trial, winner of BEST FEATURE at the Grand Rapids Film Festival, is a riveting courtroom drama based on the Award-Winning Novel from Robert Whitlow. The Trial follows small-town attorney Kent "Mac" McClain (Matthew Modine; Full Metal Jacket, Any Given Sunday), who is left devastated and purposeless by the horrific death of his wife and two sons in a tragic accident. Just before concluding suicide to be his only option from his sorrow, McClain agrees to take on one final case. Defending accused murderer Peter Thomason (Randy Wayne; To Save a Life) against capital punishment, McClain begins the trial that transforms his life and the lives of those around him forever.
PREVIEW REVIEW: An engaging courtroom drama, complete with moving performances and a subtle spiritual theme, this is one for the home DVD library. Its messages of life-has-value and when we've come as far as we can, let go and let God… are clear, yet gently placed into the parable.
While I suspect the filmmaker intended to use this story as a spiritual think piece, he never overplays his hand. What's more, he brings the best to his production, including veteran character actors who caress a line and its meaning, and a behind-the-camera crew who light, photograph and art-direct with style and professionalism.
