Love’s Christmas Journey
by Phil Boatwright

Released on DVD October 30, 2012. This next installment of the “Love” saga will also air on Hallmark Hall of Fame, Monday, November 19.

FILM SYNOPSIS: While still mourning the loss of her husband and daughter, recently widowed Ellie King (Natalie Hall) visits her brother Aaron Davis (Greg Vaughan) and his children for Christmas. Ellie does her best to enjoy the holidays, even making new friends with Mrs. Thompson (JoBeth Williams), a local shopkeeper, and handsome admirer Deputy Strode (Dylan Bruce). Settling in nicely with her brother's family, Ellie also meets Erik (Bobby Campo), a young man abandoned by his outlaw father whom Aaron has taken in as one of his own. When Aaron travels out of town to purchase adjacent land for farming, Ellie agrees to watch his children, but the season’s festivities are threatened when Aaron goes missing.

PREVIEW REVIEW: This is a hit-and-miss series of movies intended for the Hallmark Hall of Fame channel. The latest has its faults and could certainly be called corny without much argument from me. Stilted dialogue, kid actors who were probably better at the tryouts, lame special effects and a never-ending score that highlights the sugar & spice laden script. But somehow, with all those weaknesses, there’s still the engagement factor. It’s somehow fun to watch. There are some action sequences that help ward off the saccharine moments, much the way insulin aids a diabetes patient, and the lead, played by Natalie Hall, does an admirable job. Add to that the following and you find a worthy made-for-TV frontier woman chick flick: it’s about the importance of family; it contains a respect for God and the Bible; and it shows people facing odds and showing their true character.

If you’re a fan of the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke, this Yuletide addition won’t disappoint.

Not rated, there are a few moments that may disturb little ones, moments that include a tornado wiping out a barn, killing Elle’s husband and child; several shootings; a man injured by a gunshot, which leaves him near death; lives are threatened by the bad guy and his henchmen; and a angered man beats another man and points his pistol at him.

Fox Home Entertainment will be releasing a 10 Disc Love Comes Softly series on the same day – 10/30/12
