The Least Among You
by Phil Boatwright

New to DVD, this inspiring story, based on true events, stars Louis Gossett, Jr., Lauren Holly, William Devane and Cedric Sanders. Written and directed by Mark Young, the movie will be distributed in the Christian marketplace by Thomas Nelson Publishers, Lionsgate's exclusive distributor to the Christian market.

FILM SYNOPSIS: Arrested in the 1965 Watts riots, Richard Kelly (Cedric Sanders) must serve probation at an all-white seminary. Although encouraged to break racial boundaries by its president, Alan Beckett (William Devane), the school wants black followers, not leaders. With a prison sentence hanging over his head, Richard meets Samuel Benton (Louis Gossett, Jr.) – "the gardener in the basement." As Samuel guides him through his many trials, Richard must choose between his dreams and his destiny.

PREVIEW REVIEW: Both touching and involving, the DVD can be appreciated for good storytelling, sincere performances and solid messages, one against prejudice and intolerance, the other, just as important, the realization that with patience and grace our enemies can often be won over. I didn't feel lectured to as much as reminded and fortified. It's a solid film.

While it is rated PG-13, the offensive language has been removed and the violence is brief, making a point rather than just assaulting the viewer. Special features include a featurette on the real Richard Kelly and a behind-the-scenes featurette.
