Tarzan And The Lost City MPAA Rating: PG Entertainment: +1 1/2 Content: -1/2

He was born of noble English descent, but lost in the deepest African interiors, to be reared by the creatures of the jungle. Later he was returned to the British society from whence he came, but now has been called back to Africa, on the eve of his wedding night to defend his childhood home. You know who he is ...Tarzan of the Apes...and this time he is played by Casper van Dien. And he is joined by his lovely fiancee,. Jane (Jane March). The two of them must battle an onslaught of mercenaries intent on plundering the land. And Tarzan must find and defeat European soldier of fortune Nigel Ravens (Steven Waddington) before he discovers and loots the legendary and mystic city of Opar. TARZAN AND THE LOST CITY is certainly titled correctly because the whole movie seems to lack direction. Viewers are not sure whether this is comedy, action or drama. It has plenty of action, but, as compared to previous Tarzan movies, seems weak on believability and entertainment impact.

Being rated PG, the film has relatively few offensive elements. Only two mild crude words and one regular profanity are spoken. However, it does imply that Tarzan and Jane are living and sleeping together before they are married. And Jane is seen in a somewhat revealing shirt. There are a couple of violent scenes in which the natives do battle with the mercenary soldiers. Natives are killed by machine guns and soldiers are killed by arrows. But this violence does not seem excessive, although it will be disturbing to very young children. For some, a questionable element will be the use of voodoo magic by the chief of the tribe. In one scene, he turns himself into a swarm of flies to protect Tarzan and into a giant cobra to protect the lost city. In addition, he turns a pile of bones into fighting warriors, and in the end, Ravens is killed by lightning sent down from pagan gods Some parents are concerned about the portrayal of occultic, voodoo practices in films and the influence it will have on their children. So, considering this questionable element and the message that premarital sex is normal and acceptable, we have given this latest Tarzan adventure a slightly negative rating.
