The tortured hero of UNFORGETTABLE, medical examiner Dr. David Krane (Ray Liotta), has nothing to lose. All of Seattle suspects he killed his wife even though he was acquitted for lack of evidence, and he has lost custody of his children as well. When he hears neurobiologist Martha Briggs (Linda Fiorentino) speak about her successful experiments in transferring memories from one person to another, Krane doesn't hesitate. Vowing to find his wife's killer, he injects himself with his wife's post-mortem spinal fluid which is supposed to house memory. As Krane experiences flashbacks of his wife's last night, the film enters new territory with its first-person views of the murder. Subsequently, he injects himself with fluid from other people even though he is warned the injections could kill him. Flashbacks pop out at unexpected moments, keeping viewers and Krane both on edge as every day life is thrown into a limbo of reality and phantoms. The fragmented images appear as hallucinatory, almost subliminal, making the viewer a detective along with Krane. UNFORGETTABLE is a super mystery guaranteed to keep you guessing.

Unfortunately, the murder-scene sequences are loaded with violence, blood and gore, making them difficult to watch. The opening scene of violent, bloody killings of several people shot sets the tone for this violent film. Later, looking through the killer's eyes at his prey while he takes aim and fires, the audience sees the victim's terror as he tries to dodge the lethal bullet. Also flashbacks of the brutal murder of Krane's wife occur repeatedly. Even a small child's life is threatened when a killer grabs him during a church mass and holds a gun to his head. Along with gratuitous violence comes the all too common gratuitous obscenities and profanities. The f-word alone is used 22 times. There is no sex or nudity, but there are some references to Krane's wife becoming pregnant by another man. Dr. Krane's willingness to risk his life to clear his name and solve other murders is admirable, but UNFORGETTABLE will be remembered more for its excessive violence and foul language.
