Unsympathetic to their girlfriends' ecological concerns, best buddies, Bud (Pauly Shore) and Doyle (Stephen Baldwin), stumble onto a new shopping mall. Only the mall turns out to be the much-touted Biodome - a perfectly controlled environment in the Arizona desert. Entering the Dome, the two discover it is hermetically sealed for a year. Of course, Bud and Doyle upset the ecological balance big time! They proceed to destroy the delicate eco-systems through their clowning around, driving the five scientists stationed there to absolute distraction. Food and other commodities are threatened since five, not seven, people were planned for. When Bud and Doyle find a way to escape, they throw a big party instead. Hordes of teenagers show up, play loud music, dance, drink, swim in the pristine pool and trash everything. But, coming to their senses, the two villains try to undo what they have done - with some success. Teenagers in particular will likely go for this funny slapstick comedy. It is fast-paced and has lots of genuinely humorous antics and dialogue, though often crude and sexually oriented.

BIODOME does not have a serious environmental message. The opposite turns out to be true as the film uses the heroes to poke fun at not littering. Bud and Doyle's behavior with their girlfriends is often very sexual. The couples even make love through the Biodome glass as they run their hands down each other's bodies. They engage in sensual French kissing a few times, and the girls wear skimpy, tight, revealing clothing. The language contains a number of obscenities and at least one regular profanity. The violence tends more toward slapstick than real violence, although some explosives are set off near the film's end, and Bud and Doyle do a lot of environmental damage. However, BIODOME is likely to bring more harm to teenagers' morally and spiritually than to the environment - a far greater destruction.
