Professor Phillip Brainard (Robin Williams) is a man so lost in thought that he appears, at times, not to pay attention at all. He's even forgotten two dates to marry his sweetheart Sara (Marcia Gay Harden). But then he's got a lot on his mind. He's working on a revolutionary source of new energy which may very well save his financially troubled Medfield College, where his beloved Sara is the president. Just before he's scheduled to marry Sara for the third time, Professor Brainard's research all comes together and he creates a miraculous goo he calls flubber. The substance, when applied to any object, enables the object to fly through the air at remarkable speeds. Unfortunately, Professor Brainard's arch-nemesis Wilson Croft has come to town to steal both his girl and the flubber. Audiences will pack the theater to see this hilarious movie. Younger viewers will especially enjoy the recurring jokes, which get funnier each time they appear.

For the most part, the movie is free of objectionable material. One mild crude word is spoken by the Professor as he hurts his hand while busily working on his car's engine, and the Lord's name is used once as an exclamation. Slapstick humor abounds as golf balls, bowling balls, and basketballs coated with flubber smash people in the head. One moderately violent scene features Sara, whose hands have been coated in flubber, punching a bad guy repeatedly in the face. One fairly crude scene shows the flubber shooting into a man's mouth, he contorts wildly as the flubber makes its way through his intestines, and finally the flubber flies out his rear end. Surprisingly, one scene contains near nudity as the Professor absent-mindedly enters an art class in which nude models are posing for art students. The models cover themselves, and the Professor walks out embarrassed. The effect is humorous, not sensual. With these precautions in mind, FLUBBER is a reasonably acceptable movie the whole family will enjoy.
