Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
PG-13
Entertainment: +3 1/2
Acceptability: -3

At the end of the first AUSTIN POWERS spy movie, Dr. Evil (Mike Myers) escaped to the moon, vowing to come back someday and dominate the world. In this second installment Dr. Evil and his miniature-sized clone, "Mini-me," devise a new evil plan to destroy Washington D.C. But first he must take care of Austin Powers (Myers), international man of mystery. Dr. Evil travels back to the sixties in a time machine to steal the sexual libido from Austin Powers, hoping this will render him powerless as a spy in the future. But Dr. Evil doesnt count on the Austin of the nineties coming back to the swinging sixties in his own time machine. Along with the beautiful CIA agent, Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham), he must track down his lost libido and save the world from destruction. Mike Myers, a former Saturday Night Live shooting starlet, has to shine even brighter in this AUSTIN POWERS sequel among a rather dim supporting cast. The quirky humor in this much-anticipated film will, like its predecessor, please large audiences.

The term shag, a British slang for sex, indicates the thematic content of the film. During the opening credits, Austin parades around while different suggestive items obscure his nudity. During the closing credits, accompanied by suggestive sounds, he and Felicity Shagwell are seen in bed together. And in between an abundance of creatively couched innuendoes about male genitals, sexual libido, and the like invade the screen. Set in the liberated 60s, sexual intercourse is shown free of consequence. And language includes many crude words, obscenities, and regular profanities. When Myers is funny hes very funny, but the very crude humor in this AUSTIN POWERS sequel is embarrassingly inappropriate for its targeted young teen audience, or adults for that matter. Its PG-13 rating is the films biggest joke. It should be rated R.
