Danny (Jude Law) grew up believing he was destined to marry Anna (Gretchen Mol.) When he is 5 years old and Anna's mother, Grace (Brenda Blethyn), goes into pre-mature labor, he helps deliver Anna. Twenty-five years later, Danny returns to find Anna engaged to a "perfect" man. Danny is a poor artist, but Anna's fianc is rich and stable. Grace believes Anna belongs with Danny and that some "magic" is at work between them. Anna's blind sister, Nina (Jennifer Tilly) , falls in love with a Hispanic man, Jesus (Vincent Laresca), who helps her understand love and independence. Their uncomplicated relationship is portrayed right along side with the complicated relationship of Anna and Danny. This small budget romantic film will probibly appeal primarily to a limited female audience and have only a modest box office response.

The plot of the film relies heavily on "fate." Danny says he believes in fate, but when flipping a coin, he "cheats" to get a date with Anna. Later, even though Anna is engaged to another man, she "cheats" at flipping a coin to get Danny into bed. IAnd it is implied that Anna and her fianc are living together. When Danny takes Nina to a bar, a fist fight breaks out and Danny is cut with a broken bottle. Anna's family is extremely dysfunctional, and Danny, an orphan, seems to fit in perfectly. Anna's sister-in-law frequently threatens, and eventually does shoot and wound her husband because of his cheating ways. Further, it is implied that Anna's sister is a lesbian. The dialogue also includes some mild and moderate crudities and a few obscenities .These, along with the explicit sexual content and continuous sexual dialogue, will offend descerning viewers.
