Ellie (Naomi Watts) is an actress trying to make a name for herself in Hollywood. Theres no real story here, except for Ellie racing from one audition to another, changing clothes in her car and humiliating herself as she tries to present whatever persona a new script calls for. Ellie lives with Justin (Mark Pellegrino), a struggling musician usually under the influence of drugs. When Ellie finds him in bed with another woman, she moves in with her best friend, Sam (Rebecca Rigg), who seems to be able support herself as an actress. When she accidentally meets Chris (Scott Coffey), Ellies hopes for a new romance begin to blossom. After many disappointments and sessions with her therapist, Ellie decides to quit. Her agent (Chevy Chase) seems to encourage her to do that by his indifference. Watching a young woman make a fool of herself, select losers as lovers, and whine through it all will appeal to a very limited audience.

In the opening scene, Ellie is racing down the freeway to another audition, repeating over and over a few lines that include a string of f-words. In addition to an abundance of others, that obscenity is repeated 47 times during the 94-minute film. Ellie and Justin are shown bathing together and having sex while covered with suds. Later, she and Chris are in bed after implied sex, and she says, That was weird. He replies, Now I know Im definitely gay. Ellies female therapist expresses an unprofessional affection for her patient, and Ellie points out to Sam that therapist is really two words, the rapist. She and Sam kiss passionately once. Several incidents of drug use include pot smoking, Ellie and Chris driving stoned and drunk, and film producers sprawled semi-conscious during an audition. The decadent portrayal of the Hollywood environment, vulgar language and immoral behavior will turn off discerning viewers.
