This crime drama is the story of a young man named Marcus (50 Cent) who as a young boy wanted to be a rapper but turns to dealing drugs when his mother is killed. After barely doing better than minimum wage, he soon becomes one of the best earners in the drug-world business. As much money as he makes, it never seems to be enough to fill the void in his life. When found guilty of a shooting, he is sent to jail. While doing time, he works on his music and vows not to go back to his old life, but the pressures from his old gang connections pull him back in. After robbing a rival gang, he is shot nine times and believed to be dead. After a long recovery, he comes back to his rap music and makes it bigger than ever.

This film sheds some light on the difficulties and pressures that young minorities face while growing up in the inner city. Most children do not have positive male role models and often are raised by their extended families, resulting in many children competing for a limited amount of love. This was the case for young Marcus. He was often left to fend for himself, making his own decisions and poor choices. He is shown as a young boy performing rap music with explicit lyrics that he wrote for a girl that he liked. He later admits that he did not know the meanings of some of the words he used. While bad behavior has its consequences and is illustrated in this story, the films violence and bad language are excessive and will offend many. Though this film has heart, its graphic violence, drug themes, bad language and nudity cause Preview to issue a strong warning against it.
