In this Australian comedy, Brownie (David Field) and his wife own an oyster farm and are at odds and unhappy because he will not allow her to work the farm. Its not womens work, he tells her. But Brownie is not as skilled at raising the oysters as his wife. A newcomer named Jack Flange (Alex OLachlan) hires on as an oyster farmer to help pay for the medical treatment and rehabilitation of his sister, who was injured in a car accident. Frustrated about not being able to do enough for his sister, Jack robs an armored car for an envelope of money. He mails the stolen money to himself and waits for it to arrive, but it does not come. Jack suspects that it is his love interest, Pearl (Diana Glenn), has taken the money. The story progresses at an oysters pace as the oyster farming scenes become more redundant. In addition to being slow, the film is hard to follow in places and to understand with the Australian dialect of some oddball characters.

While the story is unique and the characters colorful, Oyster Farmers dialog contains many crude and obscene words with many occurrences of the f-word and the s-word. Also included is some moderate violence with a couple fistfights ending with a knife being pulled and an instance of nudity with a slightly shaded man entering a shower and in the portrayals of sex between an unmarried man and woman. As in Les Miserables, the plot surrounds the main characters stealing money for a good cause. Oyster Farmer seems to justify the theft in this case because its intent was to help a sister in need of medical treatment. Oyster Farmer received an unacceptable rating because it glorifies stealing. Preview issues a strong warning due to this films objectionable content.
