Chronicles of Riddick, The
PG-13

Acceptability: -2 1/2

In this sequel to Pitch Black, Riddick (Vin Diesel) speeds through space to save a planet from a religious army known as the Necromongers. His real goal as the most lethal outlaw in the universe is to clear his name by killing those who have put a bounty on him. In the process, he discovers that his only friend, Kyra (Alexa Davalos), has been sent to a subterranean prison on a planet with extremely high temperatures. Riddick allows himself to be captured so that he can go to the prison and free Kyra. He receives help from Ambassador Aereon (Judi Dench). Meanwhile, the Necromonger warriors systematically destroy planet after planet, killing all who refuse to convert to their dark faith. Their leader, the Lord Marshal (Colm Feore), has been warned that someone from planet Furion will one day take his life. Because Riddick is one of Furions few survivors, the Necromongers send troops to the prison to murder him.

Riddick, the muscle-bound hero, has a soft spot for children and those who are helpless. He shows remarkable loyalty, often facing death for the sake of his friends. But his chief talent appears to be killing people, whether he uses weapons or his hands. The violence in the movie is stylized and not overly graphic or gory. Riddick rarely speaks more than three words in a row, but he inspires a younger friend to develop a passion for killing. Riddick is powerful, and he gets what he wants. He knocks around a policeman who has a simple request. Another time, he pushes through a crowd of soldiers to go his own way. Anger and aggression fuel most of Riddicks adventures. Due to the violence and some profanity and bad language, Preview does not recommend The Chronicles of Riddick.
