Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

In this sequel to the 2002 flick, Mystery Inc. Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Velma (Linda Cardellini), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby-Doo (voice of Neil Fanning) is back in Coolsville with their Mystery Machine van. Kids and adults fond of the 70s and 80s show should like this one. Having saved the town from countless monsters over the years, the Mystery Inc. gang is being honored by the Monster Museum with a display of the costumes of these monsters. The museums curator, Patrick Wisely (Seth Green), is beside himself as one of the monsters has been freed, wreaks havoc on the museum and threatens to revive all of the monsters that have been captured. The monster chasers of Mystery Inc. go from being honored as heroes to being blamed for this mishap. Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby jump to action to recapture the monsters and spare Coolsville from this torment.

This is a nostalgic reunion of the Mystery Inc. gang with the monsters of their past, including the Pterodactyl Ghost, the Black-Knight Ghost, Captain Cutlers Ghost, the Swamp-Deep-Sea-Diver Ghost and the 10,000-Volt Ghost. The altercations with these monsters have some suspense, but they are not particularly scary. In each tense moment, something funny soon follows to defuse any fear. A few questionable points result in the movies PG rating. A dog is starstruck by seeing Scooby-Doo at a social function and says, Smell my butt. In order to get Patricks attention romantically, Velma wears a tight-fitting leather suit. After a female character is found to be a man, a male character says, Youve been a dude the whole time? But we cuddled! And, as in the predecessor, Scoobys flatulence is once again used as a gag. Overall, however, Scooby-Doo 2 is an innocent, fun-loving and enjoyable film.
