This romantic comedy is the story of Henry Roth (Adam Sandler), a marine veterinarian working at an aquarium in Hawaii. Henry lies to female tourists of all varieties in order to have sex with them. He is afraid of commitment, so he makes up excuses on the first date so that he never has to see the girl again. This all changes when he meets Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore). Henry is completely smitten. But when he takes the big step of seeing her the next day, Lucy does not remember him. As the result of a past auto accident, she has no short-term memory. When she wakes up after a nights sleep, she is completely unaware of the passing of time. Her family keeps up that illusion to limit the trauma Lucy experiences each time she discovers what has really happened. Each day Henry must get her to fall in love with him all over again, and again and again. Also starring Sean Astin, Rob Schneider and Dan Aykroyd.

A man of few scruples, Henry uses women for his own pleasure. But when he becomes involved with Lucy and her mental disability he transforms into a selfless boyfriend who goes to great lengths to love her and help her recover her memory. At times, this film is touching as it shows one persons weakness drawing out anothers hidden strengths. Love is shown to have the power to motivate people to do good. Unfortunately the quaint love theme is overshadowed by an excessive use of crude humor with lots of gay jokes, sexual innuendo and bad language. In one scene, a quirky, drug-using friend hides nearby a man and his date and encourages him with gestures to make a sexual move on the girl. 50 First Dates is a cute movie filled with some funny moments, especially the scenes with animals, but Preview cannot recommend it due to the crude humor and bad language.
