Odd Couple II, The
PG-13
Entertainment: +3
Acceptability: -2

Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison (Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau) are back! After 17 years of separation, Felix still living in New York and Oscar now retired in Sarasota, Florida, the two meet in a California airport. When they discover they are both on their way to the same wedding -- Felix's daughter and Oscar's son -- it seems only logical they should share a rental car. The fact that neither can remember the small town where the wedding is taking place results in a long ride fraught with lost luggage, fastidious Felix's hypochondria and sloppy Oscar's bumbling insensitivity. After their rental car accidentally rolls off the side of a mountain, the two lost men are offered a ride by a Mexican smuggling immigrants across the Mexican border. Will Felix and Oscar make it to the wedding? No comment. Will the local sheriff finally lock them up after three arrests? No comment. Are these two Neil Simon characters as funny as ever? You bet.

Although Felix and Oscar haven't changed much in 17 years, Hollywood's use of foul language has. Almost 20 profanities, 10 obscenities and many crudities are spoken -- a sharp contrast to the original ODD COUPLE. Fortunately, there is no sex or nudity, but the two men are approached in a bar by two tough young women. They begin dancing suggestively, but are interrupted when the women's husbands come looking for them. Oscar expresses a few crude, suggestive remarks about his hopes to "get lucky" with a woman. Later Felix becomes attracted to a lovely woman, and from conversation it is implied they have sex. No real violence occurs, although a spectator at a baseball game is hit by a ball. Also, the two men face some tense moments when they are surrounded by armed immigration officers. The pity of The ODD COUPLE II is that such good fun is marred by such unnecessary profanities and obscenities.
