Alien: The Director's Cut
Entertainment: +2 1/2
Acceptability: -3

Nearly 25 years since the sci-fi, horror movie was produced, Alien has been restored, edited and re-released in this faster-moving edition, Alien: The Director?s Cut. The commercial spaceship, Nostromo, veers off its designated course toward Earth so that the crew ? Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt), Kane (John Hurt), Ash (Ian Holm), Lambert (Veronica Cartwright), Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) and Parker (Yaphet Kotto) ? can investigate an SOS signal on a distant planet. This movie also launches Sigourney Weaver?s movie career as Ripley, a strong, brave and tenacious female officer. She proves to be particularly skillful at staying at least one step ahead of an alien that finds its way onto the ship. This film will keep the audience jumping and on the edge of their seats, especially with an added scene that concludes the movie.

Slime and strobe lights are strong signals that something scary is about to happen in Alien: The Director?s Cut. As the ship goes to investigate the SOS signal, the crew is awakened from suspended animation. They arise from their slumber practically naked. The crew is unfortunately presented as foul-mouthed, vulgar ore miners. Nude pictures adorn a man?s sleeping area, further degrading the professionalism of this crew. The profane language increases as the crew members attempt to defend themselves against the slimy and stealthy alien. Despite the fact that the alien is systematically killing crewmembers by blood-spurting techniques, the crew?s scientist wants to study and learn more about the creature. An alien coming out of a man?s chest and the decapitation of another man are examples of the film?s gruesome images. The violence combined with a lot of inappropriate language earns this re-release a negative rating from Preview.
