Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
PG-13
Entertainment: +2
Acceptability: -2

The prequel to the 1994 hit Dumb and Dumber tells the story of how Harry and Lloyd became friends as teenagers. This film, however, is missing the original stars, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Harry (Derek Richardson), who has been home-schooled by his mother, finally goes to public school and on the first day runs into Lloyd (Eric Christian Olsen), the janitors son. Harry is relieved when Lloyd shows him the ropes at high school. The bumbling pair falls right into a scheme concocted by Principal Collins (Eugene Levy) and his dimwitted girlfriend Ms. Heller (Cheri Oteri). Harry and Lloyd are assigned to recruit fellow students for a special needs class so the school can qualify for a $100,000 grant, which Collins intends to use for his and Hellers condo in Hawaii. School newspaper reporter Jessica (Rachel Nichols) foils the principals plan when, with some help from Harry and Lloyd, she uncovers incriminating tape recordings and documents.

Some of the humor in Dumb and Dumberer is clever, but much of it is derived from slapstick, crudities and sexual innuendo. The boys interpret a girls request to discuss a delicate matter as a sexual advance, and seemingly innocent phrases throughout the film are interpreted as sexual comments. The film contains no overt sexual conduct and only a few scenes with near nudity. A boy peeks into a locker room as girls are undressing, and there are some shots of women in their underwear and others in low-cut tops. While visiting Jessica, Harry goes to the restroom and accidentally smears a melted chocolate bar all over the bathroom. Jessicas father (Bob Saget) enters and mistakes the mess for excrement. A similar scene occurs with Harry, mud and the fathers car. Both scenes are followed by outbursts of obscene language. Because of the sexual innuendos and bad language, the smart thing to do is avoid Dumb and Dumberer.
