Ben (Ben Affleck), a New York guy who writes "blurbs" for book jackets is getting married to Bridget (Maura Tierney) at her home in Savannah, Georgia. But he has trouble getting there. The plane he gets on crashes just before take-off. Another passenger, Sarah (Sandra Bullock), who Ben helps when she's slightly injured, offers to help get him to Savannah. This leads to a series of misadventures as they deal with various transportation set-backs. And it seems that almost everyone they meet, including Sarah, has had a bad marriage. This makes Ben question whether he wants to marry or not. Meanwhile, as Bridget wonders if he'll arrive at all, a hurricane also approaches Savannah. The humorous characters and events will make this cute, romantic comedy a popular date movie.

Ben is a likeable character and believes in remaining true to his fiancee. Although his monogomy is tested both by an exotic dancer in a thong costume at his bachelor party and by Sarah, Ben mostly avoids the temptation. He watches Sarah's silhouette as she undresses for a bath, but he leaves the room. He does sensuously kiss Sarah while she is in her underwear, but it goes no further. Bridget, too, is tempted by an old boyfriend. His hand is seen on her clothed breast as they kiss on a bed but she stops him going further. Sarah and Ben run from a motel without paying when their deception is discovered. They can't pay the bill because the money-gram office burned. One scene has Ben dancing as a stripper in a gay bar to earn money. Male couples are seen cheering him and sticking money in his boxer shorts. A man who gives Sarah and Ben a ride is shown smoking marijuana and Sarah takes some puffs but Ben refuses when offered. Sarah offers Ben advice on how to treat a wife and near the end tells him to just be honest. The dialogue is marred by a number of moderate crude terms and Sarah says the f-word in a moment of frustration. Sarah also frequently uses God's name in exclamations. God's name is used in vain 6 times as well. Even with the good character of Ben, sexual content, foul language and drug use spoil FORCES OF NATURE for concerned viewers.
