Biker Boyz
PG-13
Entertainment: +1
Acceptability: -2

Set in Southern Californias underground world of motorcycle street racing, Biker Boyz is a drama depicting the maturation of 18-year old motorcyclist, Kid (Derek Luke). Following his father's (Eriq LaSalle) tragic death, Kid vows to become like Smoke (Laurence Fishburne), the man his father most admired. But to achieve his goal, Kid must accomplish the impossible by outracing Smoke the undisputed, cool and confident King of Cali. By racing hard and recruiting a band of up-and-comers, the Biker Boyz, Kid makes a lot of progress but begins to alienate his mother (Vanessa Bell Calloway) as he develops bitterness and pride. Kids scantily clad girlfriend Tina (Meagan Good) does little more than flaunt herself. Through it all, Kid and Smoke both learn some lessons as they move toward their final challenge against each other.

The unfortunate reality of Biker Boyz is poor acting, thin characters and a yawn-worthy plot that lacks focus and purpose. Even so, the film might have offered something if it had focused on the thrilling action and technical aspects of motorcycling. Instead it gives the viewer neither a story nor an exciting visual display. Although it offers a glimpse into the motorcycling culture and a few spectacular tricks, the dialog is often laughable. Biker Boyz also earns negative acceptability marks. The film includes extensive use of crude and obscene language along with a few profanities. It also presents a neutral attitude toward promiscuous and premarital sex. The protagonist is a teen boy who has left home to live with his girlfriend; he has no job or intent to go to school. Biker Boyz strikes out in both entertainment value and acceptability.
