When Dr. Will Jennings (Stuart Townsend) heads for an anesthesiology conference, his wife Karen (Charlize Theron) discovers their daughter Abbie (Dakota Fanning) missing and Joe (Kevin Bacon) in her house. Bragging that hes been successful with four other kidnappings, Joe settles in to wait out the ransom timetable. Will is soon taken hostage in his hotel room by Joes wife Cheryl (Courtney Love). But Cheryl and Joe fail to realize how far Will and Karen will go to get Abbie back. This tense thriller suffers from predictable action and uneven acting. Audiences are likely to feel TRAPPED by this movie.

Kidnapping, particularly a child, is probably the most hated crime. But these kidnappers target their victims as payment for past injuries, revenge for the death of their child. Sleazy Joe apparently also takes sexual advantage of the women while his brother holds their children hostage. His frequent comments to Karen are crudely suggestive. Cheryl, although similarly seductive, is less overtly sexual. Both women are seen in undergarments a few times. When Karen finally seems to accept the seductions, she pulls off Joes pants and kisses his chest. However, she puts a scalpel to his crotch and threatens painful dismemberment. A brief struggle results in a glimpse of bare male rear and a severe cut to the leg, which is later shown being sewn up. A few gunshots are graphic along with several car accidents. Joe and Cheryl both seem fond of the f-word as it gets used over sixty times. While children should know their parents will protect them, Abbie also gets to see her mother shoot a man. Dont be TRAPPED by frequent obscenities, strong profanities, crude sexual content and mistreatment of a child.
