Although the series supposedly ended with the ninth installment, its hard to keep a money maker down. Number ten in the FRIDAY THE 13TH series find the machete-wielding killer, Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder), chained in a special laboratory and ready for cryogenic freezing. After some prerequisite killing, Jason gets frozen along with scientist Rowan (Lexa Doig). A little over 4 centuries later, after Earth has become an uninhabitable swamp of pollution, a student field trip from Earth 2 stumbles upon the frozen specimens. Advances in medical reconstruction thaw out Rowan, but Jason is considered dead. Guess again. Although he takes on the military crew of the spaceship, it looks like the hockey mask meets his match in the female android K-M 14 (Lisa Ryder). But a short circuit in the medical reconstruction unit takes over and rebuilds a bigger, badder Jason. This slasher franchise has reached the point of self-parody and even fans may be ready for the date to change.

Typical of the horror film sub-category, JASON X is filled with multiple scenes of gruesome destruction. Bodies are graphically stabbed, beheaded, impaled and grossly dissected. As an unstoppable killing machine, Jason shrugs off multiple shootings until limbs are blown off by Kams futuristic shotgun. The medical restoration unit is referred to as ants and flows over injured bodies like silver, reattaching severed parts or building new ones. Causal sex appears to be accepted and normal as two students in particular cant keep their hands off each other, as well as being seen in the midst of an affair. Gratuitous nudity is provided by a holographic recreation of Jasons traditional lake-side dwelling, complete with mindless, nubile campers. The android K-M also experiments with improving the anatomical aspects of her chest. One student seeks to improve her grade by propositioning the professor with some unconventional coupling. In between moments of mayhem and lust, the dialogue manages to squeeze in numerous obscenities. JASON X should be crossed off the viewing list.
