Life is all roses for David Aames (Tom Cruise), a magazine mogul who inherited his wealth and power from his father. Aames arrives at the office around ten and often has women fawning after him. His most recent conquest, Julie Gianni (Cameron Diaz), feels deeply connected to him, but David thinks of her as just another night of fun. So when Aames spends the night with Sofia (Penelope Cruz) after his birthday party, Julie trails him and waits outside all night. When Aames finally emerges and gets in the car with Julie, she drives them off a bridge, badly injuring Aames and killing herself or so it seems. The lines between dream and reality become blurred as Aames spirals down with thoughts of conspiracy and insanity. Based upon 1997s ABRE LOS OJOS, which also starred Cruz, VANILLA SKY might be writer/director Cameron Crowes finest work to date. He brilliantly combines a suspenseful dramatic thriller with a very human love story that shows great insight into life and relationships. Look for it to make a big splash at the box office.

David Aames is a self-centered womanizer. He crafts relationships around ways to heighten his own pleasure while surrounding himself with fawning people who depend upon his riches for their livelihood. However, Sofia is the exception to his entourage as she forces him to come to grips with his true personality. The film includes quite a bit of foul language, with over 50 obscenities and several moderate crudities. Sexual content is also prevalent with several discussions about an earlier sexual encounter, one of which is quite explicit. Also, a graphic sex scene occurs that is difficult to watch. Therefore, frequent foul language and graphic sexual elements cloud up VANILLA SKY.
