Chicago police officer Sharon Pogue (Jennifer Lopez) compassionately encourages a car wreck victim to hang on to life. A year later, Sharon is rescued from a shooting by a mysterious stranger named Catch (Jim Caviezel). Catch wanders the streets doing good deeds for people but as Sharon tries to discover more about Catchs past, he avoids her questions. Sharon is also avoiding her past as she grapples with an invitation to attend her parents' 30th anniversary renewal of wedding vows. As the attraction grows between Sharon and Catch, both must come to grips with past events that threaten their future together. Fans of the stars may initially fill the theaters, but many will be disappointed at the less than mysterious plot and seemingly slow pace.

Religious elements, other than the title, creep into the story as Sharon quotes her mother that only God saves. And the religious ceremony at the renewal of wedding vows references church rituals such as baptism. In a few moving scenes, Sharon and Jim seek forgiveness for past events. Sharon seeks forgiveness from her father for her part in his arrest for spouse abuse. And Catch must forgive himself for his part in a family death. The central themes of coming to grips with past events and seeking forgiveness provides a strong redemption message to the film. However, the film is filled with obscenities and crude language as both criminals and cops spout almost 50 f-words and make numerous crude sexual remarks. Cops are also shown drinking together in a bar, and Sharon later pours herself a scotch at home. One graphic sex act follows a scene of Sharon and Catch swimming in their underwear, but no explicit nudity is shown. Unfortunately, condoned premarital sex and frequent obscenities dont encourage seeing ANGEL EYES.
