The Farrelly Brothers continue their career of blending romantic comedy with socially unacceptable subjects in this lastest tale. Fate seems to deal cruelly with animal control officer Gilley Noble (Chris Klein). Orphaned as a child, his search for his birth mother has been fruitless. But he falls in love with Jo Wingfield (Heather Graham) and as they consummate his marriage proposal with wild sex, Gilley is mistakenly told Jo is his sister. When Gilley learns the truth, he sets out cross country to stop Jo’s impending marriage. But Jo’s trashy mother, Valdine (Sally Field), labels Gilley a sex offender to ensure Jo’s rich fianc joins the family. However, Dig McCaffey (Orlando Jones), a double amputee and local pilot, befriends Gilley and helps navigate the Farrelly’s twisted path of true love. SAY IT ISN’T SO will attract fans of the brother’s off-beat, and off-color, sense of humor.

Although the information is mistaken, much of the humor comes from Gilley being falsely labeled with the stigma of incest. Numerous crude and slang terms refer to that act as everyone directs jokes or derogatory remarks to him. Disabilities are also used for humor as Dig frequently loses his ‘legs.’ And Jo’s father, a wheel-chair-bound stroke victim, is treated like a statue by birds and later covered by bees. He also uses frequent strong profanities and obscenities. One scene features a teen daughter talking about her sex life, then exposing pierced breasts to her shocked father. Permarital sex is implied as acceptable when Gilley and Jo consummate his proposal. Another scene implies an unconventional act occurs in a hot tub. Dig say’s Jo’s fianc grows and sells marijuana and is later seen stuffing grass in his mouth as police approach. Like the Farrelly’s past productions, SAY IT ISN’T SO is filled with offensive material.
