Get Over It
PG-13
Entertainment: +2
Acceptability: -2

When longtime girlfriend Allison (Melisa Sagemiller) dumps Berke (Ben Foster), he's given the title advice. But he decides to do anything to get her back. Standing in his way is new student, and British pop music sensation, Striker (Shane West). Berke sees an opportunity to win her back when Striker and Allison try out for the school musical. Neither a singer nor an actor, Berke tries out for the play and finds the going difficult until Kelly (Kirsten Dunst) offers her help. As Berke seeks to get his girlfriend back, he finds Kelly’s charms harder to resist than he first thought. GET OVER IT has some nice performances from Dunst and Foster. Other than the inclusion of Shakespeare’s comedy ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ and their acting, the movie has few redeeming qualities. The majority is recycled material from previous teen comedies, leaving GET OVER IT struggling to fill its box office niche.

Following in the footsteps of last year’s spate of teen comedies, GET OVER IT combines teenage life with an over-the-top sexual element that leaves one wondering if all teens have such a graphically sexual undercurrent to their dialogue. While nothing graphic or explicit is shown, sexually suggestive images appear throughout the movie. Time after time, the writer and/or director slips in sexual innuendo or scenes implying teens think of nothing else. And while the characters never actually engage in sexual intercourse, some of the male teens visit a strip club, evidently getting in with fake ID’s. Inside, one of them gets strapped up on a harness as a black-leather clad performer comes out to do her thing in a scene with male and female rear nudity. Foul language is also a detraction with 24 obscenities and 17 moderate crudities. Overwhelming sexual innuendo, along with obscenities, strongly suggest you not GET OVER IT.
