Off-duty detective John Hallstrom (Aidan Quinn) bets his cohorts at the nightclub he can seduce the pretty violinist played by Madeleine Stowe. He makes a fool of himself trying to get her attention, even baring his backside to her. What he doesn't know is she is blind. Imagine John's shock a few weeks later when Emma, the violinist, comes to the police department to report a murder she thinks she witnessed. She has had a cornea transplant which has restored her sight, sort of. Her brain and her sight aren't in sync. What she has seen doesn't register in her brain immediately, making her account of the murder fuzzy. Needless to say, no one takes Emma too seriously. As John gets involved in the investigation, he becomes sexually involved with Emma. Who done it? Does the killer know Emma saw him? Who's stalking Emma? Who will be his next victim? These questions aren't too original, but neither is the story about a blind woman being stalked. However, there is enough suspense to make for a reasonably interesting mystery.

Stripping down to his underwear and "mooning" an entertainer does nothing for John's public image. Watching an otherwise lovely young woman drinking wine from a bottle until she passes out doesn't make Emma particularly likable either. After those distasteful scenes, it isn't too surprising John and Emma fall madly in lust. Two scenes of graphic sex, one with breast nudity and rear male nudity, occur in between their bickering and shouting obscenities at each other. The bloody aftermath of a young girl's brutal killing is gratuitous. She is shown nude in a bathtub, covered with blood. The camera focuses on a policeman's bloody corpse as it falls out of a car. Also disturbing are Emma's flashbacks of her mother smashing little Emma's face into a mirror, leaving Emma blind. Many obscenities, profanities and crudities numb the eardrums. Blink twice before spending money on BLINK.
