I'll Do Anything
PG-13
Entertainment: +3
Acceptability: -1

I'LL DO ANYTHING centers around the fickleness of Hollywood and the people trying to make a living there, particularly those at Popcorn Movies. Burke Adler (Albert Brooks) is the Hollywood producer looking for his next big hit in an action-adventure movie. His neurotic personality drives everyone at work crazy except for his level-headed statistics coordinator, Nan (Julie Kavner). Matt Hobbs (Nick Nolte) is an aging actor trying to make it big after disappointingly small roles. Matt meets Kathy (Joely Richardson), one of the talent agents at Popcorn Films. They hit it off right away and Matt seems on his way to becoming a big star. Enter Jeannie (Whittni Wright), Matt's seven year-old daughter from his broken marriage. She comes to stay with him after his ex-wife is put in jail on extortion charges. Jeannie turns his life around... and around, having been spoiled by her mother. The wrangling between father and daughter prove to be some of the funniest moments in this movie. Though the pace is a little frantic, I'LL DO ANYTHING is a very funny and articulate movie about the neuroses of the Hollywood set versus the important things in life like love and family. Whittni Wright shines as the girl with just the right amount of mischievousness and goodness. However, this is not a movie for children but rather for parents who have to deal with them. Young adults and older should enjoy this movie.

With its PG-13 rating unfortunately comes some elements that would have better been left out. The romantic involvement between Matt and Kathy includes unnecessary suggestive comments and a shot of Kathy running naked across the hall. Full nudity is briefly seen from the side. Intercourse is implied and interrupted between them by a call from Matt's daughter. Other sexual comments abound between Burke and his employees as they rate various movies. Lots of unnecessary language finds its way into the movie with a few obscene terms and some profanities. What could have been a thoroughly enjoyable movie is marred by the superfluous foul language and sexual situations.
