Greedy

Wealthy Joe McTeague (Kirk Douglas) is getting old, and four of his nieces and nephews are out to get their share of his fortune when he dies. Uncle Joe is a greedy old codger himself who none of them like, but are constantly trying to win over. The one apparent exception is nephew Danny McTeague (Michael J. Fox) and his girlfriend Robin (Nancy Travis) who take pride in their honesty and compassion. However, Uncle Joe has acquired a new "nurse," a sexy young blonde named Molly (Olivia d'Abo), and everyone is afraid he will give all his money to her. The cousins persuade Danny, Uncle Joe's favorite, to try to keep Molly from beating them out. This leads to lots of comical maneuvering and bickering as the cousins try to outdo each other as well as Molly. But sly old Uncle Joe has some funny, surprising tricks up his sleeve to determine who really loves him. Danny almost succumbs to the greed around him, but eventually his true character shines through. GREEDY tends to deal in excesses of acting and slapstick at times, but is good for some surprises and lots of laughs.

Amongst all its silliness and wacky comedy, GREEDY has a poignant message of care and concern for the elderly. Danny and Robin are genuinely concerned about caring for Uncle Joe, who is supposedly confined to a wheelchair. At times, greed overcomes Danny and it's clear his motives are not altogether altruistic. When the true test comes, though, he and Robin come through with flying colors. It's really disappointing that this clever comedy is so thoroughly polluted with foul language and sexually suggestive humor. The cousins angrily accuse Molly of having sex with Joe and in one scene she appears in a revealing, sensual fishnet outfit and accompanies him to the bedroom. She also goes in for revealing bikinis while lounging around the pool. Not surprising, Danny and Robin are having an affair, and sex is implied between them in a hotel room with rear nudity shown once. Unfortunately, the offensive language and suggestive sexual content completely spoil this imaginative comedy.
