Return of the Living Dead 3
Entertainment: +1/2
Acceptability: -4

Curt (J. Trevor Edmond) and his girlfriend Julie (Mindy Clarke) sneak into an Army research lab using a keycard stolen from Curt's dad, John (Kent McCord). John is head of a project to reanimate corpses for possible use as unkillable warriors. Curt and Julie watch as a corpse is reanimated and attacks the science staff. When John tells Curt they are moving again, he rebels and leaves home. Julie is killed in a motorcycle accident, but Curt sneaks her body into the lab and reanimates it. During their escape, Julie develops an unknown hunger. She also discovers self-inflicted pain distracts her from the hunger pains. In a convenience store, she bites a man during a robbery attempt. He later becomes one of the reanimated or "Undead." The store clerk, shot in the robbery, gets in a van with Curt and Julie. Julie discovers a need to eat human brains when the clerk is shot in the head by pursuing police. Julie attempts suicide to end her pain, but Curt finds her still alive. John saves them from an attack of several Undead, but also "kills" Julie. Only fans of grotesque make-up and gruesome violence will find this entertaining.

There is so much degradation of the human body and soul that what few positive comments are made are totally lost. RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD has all the profanity, obscenity, nudity and sexual intercourse required for this type film. The reanimated corpses are a collection of decomposed and maimed bodies. The implied message is that an "immortal" soul continues to live in the decaying bodies. An unbelievable amount of sadistic violence occurs in the film, including severed body parts, self-mutilation, cannabalism and stabbings. As the Undead walk into an incinerator, Curt answers Julie's question that they are "going where we belong" as the flames leap around them. A fitting sentence for films that deny a Living Lord.
