On Eddie Devane's (William McNamara) last day in the Navy, he's assigned to help "Rock" Reilly (Tom Berenger), a crusty 20-year veteran of prison transport. They are to pick up Toni Johnson (Ericka Eleniak) at a Marine camp and take her back to the Navy base. They are surprised when they see that their prisoner is an attractive woman. After an escape attempt by Toni, Rock takes a shortcut to make up for lost time. Another delay occurs when the van breaks down, and the threesome must spend a night in a motel. After sex with Eddie, Toni escapes again. In the process of travel, pursuing Toni, surviving wrecks and fist fights with one another, Rock, Eddie, and Toni develop a sympathetic friendship. By the time Toni is finally delivered to the Navy, Eddie has fallen in love and Rock has lost some of his hard cover. Another escape for Toni is all that's necessary to unite the trio. Not everyone is what they appear in this somewhat entertaining comedy.

In many ways, this movie depends on military stereotypes who spout off incessant obscenities and profanities. The Navy setting also prompts several jokes about homosexual acts and implies that Eddie's partner who helps him steal Navy supplies has homosexual leanings. Eddie is hardly a role model. He uses the Navy supply system for personal gain, although his earnings are stolen by his partner. When things aren't going his way, he gets drunk and then has sex with Toni while Rock sleeps in the next room. The sex is graphic with rear and breast nudity. When Toni escapes the next morning, Eddie jumps out the window naked to chase her. A strategic hand prevents full frontal nudity, but his nude backside is revealed. An especially crude and offensive sequence concerns feminine hygiene devices, even stuffing them in the van's gas tank. Violence is limited to fist fights, but includes a few karate kicks to the face. Ultimately, crime pays, and the immoral characters end up in Cancun, Mexico. This "escapist" comedy has its humorous moments but sex, nudity and "swearing like a sailor" sink any positive attributes.
