Walk On The Moon, A
Entertainment: +1 1/2

Set in the summer of 1969, A WALK ON THE MOON tells the story of Pearl Kantrowitz (Diane Lane), a young and beautiful housewife who feels life is passing her by. She takes this feeling with her as her family vacations for the summer in the Catskill Mountains. When she arrives, she finds that the "Blouse Man", Walker Jerome (Viggo Mortensen) is the type of man that would care about her and yet let her live her life however she pleases. Walker is young and exciting with his whole life ahead of him, and she has an affair with him. All the while, her teenage daughter, Alison (Anna Paquin), is beginning to date, so Pearl does everything she can to keep Alison from going too far with any of the boys. This film attempts to be a comedy, but comes off as a fairly depressing family drama which may turn away audiences.

A WALK ON THE MOON explores the deep issue of what the loss of trust can do to a relationship. When Pearl begins her affair, she lets everyone in her family down and she becomes highly irresponsible and untrustworthy. The family has to deal with that at some point, and the film does a good job of showing Pearls husband and Alison work through those issues. But, the film does imply sex on three different occasions, all between Pearl and Walker. One sex scene is quite graphic with female breast and male rear nudity, along with motions. Another has no nudity, but graphic motions and sounds are heard are there throughout the scene. Twenty-two obscenities and 6 regular profanities also pollute the dialogue. In addition, a woman in the film looks to astrology and fortune telling to tell the future. This is portrayed in a positive light, making it look like a valid practice. This element, along with the foul language, sex, and nudity make this film morally degrading.
