Thirty years appears to be just the right timing for the re-release of this timeless Lerner and Loewe musical version of "Pygmalion." Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison) comes across ill-mannered, cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) at Covent Garden in London. He makes a bet with a colleague that he can turn Eliza into a "lady" who is comfortable and acceptable in British high society. Although he's successful in getting rid of her cockney accent and polishing her outward appearance, he finds it much more difficult to change the irrepressible personality within. He also finds it difficult to keep from falling in love with Eliza. The big test comes at a gala ball, and Eliza performs magnificently. After the bet is over and it's time for Eliza to leave, they both realize that they have come to love each another. MY FAIR LADY won eight Academy Awards, and features songs like "The Rain In Spain," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "Get Me to the Church On Time," and "Wouldn't It Be Loverly." With top-notch performances all around, children as young as ten should find the music, acting, and, yes, the wonders of the English language interesting and enjoyable.

Befitting it's age, there are none of the objectionable elements found in the supposed "family" films of today. One caution is the film's length - 170 minutes. Now that your video copy is worn out, it's worth treating yourself to a wide-screen experience of MY FAIR LADY.
