Dumb & Dumber
Entertainment: +1 1/2
Acceptability: -2

Recently fired from their jobs, roommates Lloyd (Jim Carrey), an ex-limo driver, and Harry (Jeff Daniels), head off across the country to Aspen, Colorado. Their goal is to find the girl of Lloyd's dreams. He had chauffeured her to the airport where she boarded a plane without her briefcase, which Lloyd plans to return to her. Nearly broke, the two lie, cheat and steal to make the trip. Pursued by gangsters, they unwittingly leave a trail of death and destruction, along with some silly crude and even dangerous stunts. Lloyd locates Mary (Lauren Holley), but, in the meantime, he and Harry have pried open her briefcase packed with money. The two begin spending lavishly. Suddenly, danger arrives again, and just as quickly they are out of money and out of luck. DUMB & DUMBER should have been called DUMBEST for its silly juvenile humor that will only amuse kids.

This senseless movie brings in some laughs, but at the expense of tastelessly poking fun at others. For example, Harry sells a decapitated parrot to a blind boy in a wheelchair. Other crude humor is directed toward bodily functions, such as urinating in a beer bottle and Harry's cigarette lighter causing an explosion as he holds it close to his odoriferous backside. On fire, he finally puts out the flames in a toilet. Children imitating this dangerous stunt might have disastrous results. Violence is not all slapstick; in one particularly gruesome scene, Lloyd punches his fist into a man's chest and yanks out his heart. Thankfully, the one element missing is sexual intercourse. One incident of rear female nudity and young girls in bikinis are thrown in for ogling. Once, Mary opens her blouse, but instead of seeing her breasts, we see light bulbs. Harry and Lloyd are shown bathing together in a heart-shaped tub, making suggestive comments, but homosexuality is not implied. Along with several obscenities, there are enough crude expressions and double entendres to make the dialogue distasteful. To their credit, the two friends do leave IOUs for the money they steal. Only the "dumbest" would waste their time and money on this movie.
