Batman and Mr. Freeze: SubZero

Entertainment: +2
Acceptability: -1

In this new animated video release, Batman (Kevin Conroy) must save Batgirl (Mary Kay Bergman) from Mr. Freeze's (Michael Ansara) evil plan to save his frozen wife. Mr. Freeze was a genius scientist, who discovered cryogenics, a process to freeze people, without killing them. When his wife became ill, he froze her, until a cure could be discovered. However, a freak accident breaks her containment vessel and her disease quickly progresses. She must have an organ transplant to be saved. Unfortunately a match takes time and Mrs. Fries does not have time. So, Mr. Freeze decides to find a perfect match for his wife and Batgirl just happens to be it. He kidnaps Batgirl and black mails a doctor into performing the transplant. Will Batman foil the evil plans of Mr. Freeze before it's too late for Batgirl?

Based on the D. C. Comics, Batman and Mr. Freeze is sure to capture the attention of older fans. However, it is disappointing to note that Robin does ask Batgirl to go to the coast with him for the weekend. The two are also shown consuming alcohol. Batgirl does help a woman being attacked by a group of men. However, she kicks one of the men in the groin. Although she was defending herself, this action seems to be a growing trend in childrens movies. As viewers might expect, Batman and Mr. Freeze battle it out. There are explosions, fist fights, and chase scenes. Several times, Batgirl is knocked unconscious. But what might be most frightening to young viewers are the chase scenes. Vicious bears, owned by Freeze, attack people and chase Batgirl. Several times she barely escapes their attack. It is also disappointing to note the use of 3 profanities in this G rated film. Once again Warner Bros. has given an inappropriate rating to one of its videos.
