The Cove is a documentary about former dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry who has since become an activist for the survival of the dolphin.

In the 1960s, it was O'Barry who captured and trained the 5 dolphins who played the title character in the international television sensation "Flipper." One fateful day, a heartbroken Barry came to realize that these deeply sensitive, highly intelligent and self-aware creatures must never be subjected to human captivity again. This mission has brought him to Taiji, a town in Japan where each year the mammals are gathered in a lagoon and slaughtered.

There are some difficult scenes to view in this PG-13 exposé, but mostly it is enlightening and moving. Caution: there are scenes of brutality and we see the lagoon turn vivid red from the blood of these noble beasts. And there are four or five profanities.

I am not an animal activist, but neither do I believe we should stand by and watch inhumane treatment of any of God's creatures. This film is making a difference and will move you. Now on DVD, with several bonus features.
